Music is something that can change your mood, change how you feel – and if it’s the best song, it can change your life. Music is incredible; it can get you through the roughest times, and it can help you express yourself when you’re at your worst or your best. There is a song out there that expresses how you feel at any moment. Everyone has that one song we can listen to a thousand times without getting sick of it. But seriously, how many times have you turned on the radio and heard that new pop song on every single station? It’s becoming redundant. The most popular songs are the ones that have to be so edited out due to inappropriate language or theme; so you can barely understand what the artist is talking about. In case you're unsure what it is they’re trying to say, you can assume the song is about sex, drugs...or sex, or drugs.
Not to say that every song today is about those things; but the ones that aren’t inappropriate have their downfalls as well. Today’s artists lack creativity, for example, 3 of the most played songs on the radio are called Grenade, Dynamite, and Firework. And really, Can someone please just tell Rihanna her name already? We listen to songs that lack stories, the majority of songs on the radio are repetitive, and it is starting to make our generation look incredibly superficial, simple, and sex obsessed. Music producers and executives think we are a generation that wants to hear the same 5 songs on the radio every day; but I believe we could be so much more than that. I think our generation needs to wake up and realize that there is more to the world than the new Justin Bieber song (what happens when he hits puberty? Fans will be shocked) Come on people - Justin Bieber has more followers on twitter than the President. We need to change. I dare you to listen to something other than mainstream music. Think for yourself, find your favourite music instead of what society has deemed ‘today’s best music’.

This is sooo true !
ReplyDeleteThe music on the radio is very unoriginal, and some of it barely even counts as music.
btw I laughed really hard at " And really, Can someone please just tell Rihanna her name already?"
P.s loooove the OTH drawing :)
Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you for this post . Hahaa, honestly ridiculously true. Our society is so uncreative that it actually kills me, and as soon as someone goes away fromt the mainstream they are called a freak or weird. Can someone please explain this to me ? Hahaa, awesome post, thanks :) .
ReplyDeleteDo u ever feel like a plastice bag drifting through the wind?
ReplyDeleteNice spelling..
ReplyDeleteOne thing I’ve thought about recently when listening to the radio is how unorigional our music is now, as you said. I think about the music legends; Michael Jackson, The Beatles, Elton John, etc. Their songs have lived one through generations. And sometimes, while listening to the music they play on the radio, I take a step back and think, “Will our kids listen to this so?” And for 99% of the songs played on the radio I think the answer is NO!
ReplyDeleteI feel like the music of the top charts has lost quality and most importantly musicality.
But the sad thing is, I still listen to it!
It bugs me haha
Thanks Shannon for saying what you did :) I completely agree with you that music on the radio lacks creativity (especially that Rihanna song :P). I'm disappointed when I hear songs that are explicit. I feel that it's totally unnecessary. It's too bad that artists (or actually the recording studios - according to Jon :P) feel that they need to include either drugs or sex in their songs in order for them to sell :( I enjoyed your style of writing.
ReplyDeleteThis is soooo true!
ReplyDeleteMusic is so powerful when you actually think about what your listening to and choose a song based on its creativity, the way you relate to it and because its a GOOD SONG about something other than sex and drugs. but that seems to be all that this generation can relate to these day's its sickening really..
good job on this :)
love it shannon :) you do a really good job at showing people how stupid the radio is these days. There are songs out there that are amazing, and mean something to a lot of people, but sadly people never hear them because the current music producers have no apparent taste in music. I completely agree with you and thanks for letting everyone know that they are being brainwashed :)
ReplyDeleteSoo true im tired of listening to the same songs every time i turn on my car. Love the oth pic! :)
