Through all the bullshit and all the pain, through every bad fight and every boy that threatened friendships, I'm so lucky. I have the greatest friends in the world, I have people I can trust with my life and I know they won't leave. How many people can say that? I think we spend so much time trying to find ourselves that sometimes we lose track of the amazing people in our lives that help hold us together. Sometimes people change in ways you can't understand, and sometimes friendships fall apart - but that doesn't mean that they can't be fixed. The greatest friendships are the ones you work for, the ones that you don't give up on no matter what happens. I've found out which people that I can count on and I couldn't be happier. Your friends shape who you are, they help you through the toughest of times, and they are the ones who make you strong when you want to be weak.
It's so scary to me that in 6 months my entire world is going to change, but I'm so thankful that I will have the greatest people in the world no matter what happens next.
I looooved reading this!
ReplyDeleteHigh school can be such a tough time especially involving choosing your friends, and it really sucks when you lose them, but the ones who are meant to be in your life will stay.
Trust is an incredibly huge issue also

friends are a huge part of our lives, and they effect us in a huge way. If we have good friends, being happy its way easier :)

ReplyDeleteit is scary to think that at the end of June everything will change, and everyone will be going their separate ways. It is very intimidating :|
Over the past 5 years I have had a lot of friendship problems. I've had my ups and downs with people here, but I have also had some problems with people who go to OD. People who, in gr 8, promised that we would never stop being friends, and that now don't even acknowledge my existence. So in a way I guess its good that we fell apart, and that I now know who my true friends are .
ReplyDeleteI get by with a little help from my friends too. It’s interesting how when everything is going well for you, life is good, you can consider those around you, experiencing the fun and the ease to be close friends, yet when something life changing occurs, and suddenly life is no longer fun for a while, and the ease turns to hardship some people suddenly vanish into thin air. The one’s who you considered to be the best of friends, suddenly don’t have what it takes to stand by you as you always did for them. But, what I find more surprising, is where one find’s support during these times, when let down by the others. Sometimes this support can be found in the most unlikely of places; in coworkers, in friends of friends, in the elderly personalities of a tv series, or even in old or distant friends. Sometimes you find friendship in those who least expected. During a time of desperation, I was surprised to find that my greatest happiness and support came from someone who didn’t even know of my issue. The nature of this person, as a genuinely caring and happy individual got me though the toughest of days, in ways that none of my prior friends could.
ReplyDeleteThis year I gained a best friend; someone who “makes me happy when skies are grey”. Someone who supports me unconditionally, and sees me more clearly than any friend I’ve ever had. It is this person, with their mature, intelligent, open-minded, caring perspective, who has changed my life, and my understanding of friendship. It is this person, unlike any friend I’ve ever had, who reminds me of and enables neverending hope and possibilities. This person is the truest friend I’ve ever had. This person loves me for my imperfections; doesn’t try to change me. This person encouages my interests; doesn’t insult them.
Shannon, I am glad that you are sure that you have friends who be there for committedly. I would agree that we are both very lucky.
Ps. I feel as though the Golden Girls theme song applies:
Thank you for being a friend
Traveled down the road and back again
Your heart is true your a pal and a confidant.
And if you through a party
Invited everyone you ever knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say thank you for being a friend.
a true friend walks in, when the rest of the world walks out..
ReplyDeletei love my friends :)
I think that your best friends are the ones who help YOU improve, a friend that cares about whatever problem regardless of how big or small that you need help with and you help them as well, friendship cant be all about one friend all the time. finding friends like that is the hardest thing to do, good job with this
